Other treks in the Annapurna region are to the
Annapurna Sanctuary, the site of the base camp used by
expeditions attempting the massive south face of Annapurna One.
The trek to Annapurna base camp provides some of the most
Spectacular Mountain scenery with a fascinating insight into the
life of middle hill Nepalese. The most prominent ethnic group of
this area is Gurung. The Gurungs are the most widely distributed
being found from the hills of Gorkha till Palpa. Gurungs are
famed for their cultural performance, which are easily seen
while trekking in the region. Many villagers along the trails
will arrange performance for trekkers during the main season.
The Gurungs of this area are also famous for their service in
both Britishs and Indian Gorkha soldier. Most of the man from
this area serves in both the British and Indian armies. The area
benefits from farming, trading and also generations of pa y from
British and India for their important service in Gurkha army. |
